Kindergarten Farrelly

Welcome to KF's Homepage!

Home Reading

Began in Week 3. Your child will bring home a reader that is at their independent level. Any parents who are able to help change the readers in the morning would be greatly appreciated. All helpers working in the school need to obtain a visitors pass from the front office. Also, a ‘Working with Children' declaration form must be signed.

Please ensure all school clothing is clearly labelled with your child's name. Black shoes must be worn Monday to Thursday unless there are special circumstances (a note must be provided).

Lunch orders can be placed each day. Orders can also be placed via the internet. Primary canteen is open Mon/Wed/Fri lunch and Friday recess.

Notes and Money

Please place money in a sealed envelope with your child's name, class, what the money is for, and the total amount enclosed. Absentee notes must be received within 7 days of your child's absence otherwise it is recorded as an unexplained absence. Partial absences must also have an explanation. Please ensure if your child is late to school that you send back the docket received from the front office explaining the absence.

If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school please send in cup cakes or individual bags, pieces/slices. Please do not send whole uncut cakes.

Please be mindful of children in our school who suffer food allergies. Please no nuts or nut based products and/or egg products in school lunches.

Please contact the school if your child has a highly contagious infection such as chicken pox, measles, whooping cough, swine flu or any other contagious illness.

Fruit Break

Each day at 9.30 children are given a five minute break to have a piece of fruit or vegetable and a drink of water. A large apple is too much to get through in this short break and is often wasted.

Drop Off/Pick up

Thank you to all parents for remaining under/near COLA in afternoons. As you can understand this is a busy time when students and teachers are packing up, handing out notes and giving information for the following day. When children see and hear family and friends outside they are often distracted which makes this a much longer process.

Curriculum - Early Stage 1
  • English – Talking & Listening, Reading, Writing. (Letterland)

  • Mathematics – Number, Measurement, Data, Length, Patterns & Algebra, Space & Geometry. Count me In Too (CMIT) will commence Week 2.

  • HSIE – ‘School Days'

  • PD/H/PE – Sport in Schools will be on each Friday. The cost to participate is $4 each week or $40 for the term. Families with more than 2 children only pay for the first 2 children.

Homework will be sent home on Mondays with students and is to be returned on Fridays. If your child's homework is returned late it will not be marked until the following week. It is important to work with your child every night as it supports their learning. Please contact us if you have any concerns regarding homework.

Parent Interviews

Interviews will be held at the end of Term 1 to assist in catering for each child's needs. Please don't hesitate to contact us before this time if you have any concerns. If an interview is required at another time during the school year please make an appointment to ensure that enough time is available to discuss relevant issues.

Mrs Carraro is the Primary Librarian. Our library day is Tuesday. Please ensure your child has a labelled cloth bag to borrow a library book each week. Books are returned the following week.

Primary assembly is held every Friday starting at 11.00am. Each class will run an assembly during the term. KF will run the assembly Week 4 (Friday 25 February).  Parents are most welcome to attend each week.

News items may be brought in from home, however, these are the responsibility of the student to care for. We request all students place their toys in the storeroom during class time but cannot guarantee they will not be damaged with your child during breaks. Please do not send expensive or irreplaceable items. As we progress throughout our units of work your child may be required to give a topic talk rather than news. You will be informed of this closer to the dates. (No McDonalds toys please)

I look forward to a very rewarding and successful year!

Kind Regards

Melinda Farrelly
