Careers & Transition Program

The CAT team

The WCS Careers and Transition Team (CAT Team) is now working one on one with our students to develop individualised career plans.

The CAT Team uses a variety of methods, including surveys, teacher referrals and one on one interviews to identify the career pathway aspirations of our students. Using that information, the CAT team facilitates the provision of support structures within the school and from sources in the local community. Students may be connected with work experience opportunities, guest speakers, external short courses of study relevant to their aspirations and a range of other career development opportunities. Students who are struggling to determine their career pathways receive extra support in the form of specialised career exploration software, guided by transition advisers and participation in the Real Game Series.

The following diagram illustrates the three career pathway options that we encourage all Wadalba Community School students to engage in, in order to make a meaningful connection between their education and their future careers.

CAT Team interviews currently underway!

Mr Riley and Mrs Newell are currently interviewing students on a one-on-one basis to record some vital information related to their Career choices.  Data gathered includes the student's current career goal and and identification of which of the three pathways they are on (see Career Pathways document attachment above).  Further, students are asked to reflect on their current choice of subjects, including any SVET or TVET courses being studied, and whether these are in line with their career goal and pathway aspirations.  If students are unsure of their future career they may be invited to participate in the Lost and Found program, where similar students are given further support and time to discover an appropriate career idea to pursue. The data and trends across the year group are presented to the staff, in an effort to "know our students" even better.  The data is also used to plan industry visits, guest speakers and our successful Community Careers Day in Term 2 each year.
