School Cross-Country Carnival
27 April, 2012

Competitors from all age divisions ran the Wadalba course on Friday as they battled it out for age group supremacy.

A beautifully sunny Autumn day greeted runners as they navigated the designated course through the school grounds and the Wadalba Sporting Complex. The relatively flat course winds around the school oval and then out on to the footpath before linking up with the Sporting Complex walking path. Each lap is 1.5km. Most age groups complete two laps with the older boys completing three laps for a 4.5km distance.

There was a strong Targeted Sports Program presence at the carnival with boys and girls demonstrating their endurance and determination.

The top 8 finishers in each age division earn the right to represent the school at the upcoming Zone Carnival on May 18.

Some dominant performances from the carnival included Sho O. in the 17+ boys, Brad F. in the 13yrs boys and Jamie M. in the 12yrs boys divisions.

Cross Country is the type of activity that requires discipline and resilience to be successful. All students who completed the course showed they have these valuable qualities. Well done to all competitors.

 Athletics Carnival Report (Secondary) 2012

After being postponed once on the 9th March, the Secondary Athletics Carnival was held today (Wednesday 21st March) at Warnervale Oval, much to the relief of Carnival Organisers. Some early drizzle and cloudy skies gave way to sunshine and blue skies in the afternoon.

Students were in action across the athletics arena with a full array of track and field events on offer. Javelin, Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump and High Jump were all very popular, as students tried to out-throw and out-leap each other and beat their personal bests.

Track events included the 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m and the 4x100m Relays. It was great to see so many students participating in the sprint events with smiles on their faces as they battled it out with their peers.

Other highlights of the day included Miss Coghlan's anchor leg of the teacher's 4X100m Relay team where she flashed home to win in the last five meters. The Support Unit students were particularly awesome at the High Jump station. The Tug-o-war rope and the Giant Kin Ball were also very popular as Novelty events. It was great to see so many students participating for the sheer joy of competition.

Congratulations to all competitors who qualified for the Zone carnival. We know that you will make Wadalba proud at the next level of Athletics competition.

Swimming Carnival Report 2012

Day 1: Primary Carnival and Secondary Distance events (Thursday February 23)

A fun day of competition for all. So many teachers commented on the great cooperation between Secondary and Primary students. The Year 11 VET Sport Coaching students performed officiating roles at the Carnival  which included timekeeping, announcing and lifeguard duties. It was wonderful to see these senior Wadalba students encouraging and supporting the junior Wadalba students in such a responsible and positive manner.

Highlights of the day included the enthusiasm and passion of the House war crys and the endurance shown by secondary athletes competing in the 400m and 400m Individual Medley events.

Day 2: Secondary Carnival (Friday February 24)

Dressed in their House colours and adorned in war paint, students turned out in great numbers once again to battle it out for aquatic supremacy. It was a day where the Salmon Run reigned. So  many students in the pool at once, music blaring and happy faces all around.

Congratulations to all students who qualified to represent the School at the Zone Carnival.
